Camille Rose Garcia

Born in 1970 into the stagnant middle class suburbs of Orange County, California, Camille Rose Garcia began collecting ideas for her future career from such inspirational activities as visiting Disneyland and going to punk rock concerts. Mix this with influences ranging from William Burroughs to the Dead Kennedys and her twisted cartoon creations become easier to comprehend. Add to this a Masters in Fine Arts from the University of California and a BFA from Otis College of Art and Design and you have a time-bomb of creative talent waiting to explode.

“The Earth is older than humans and will rebound, but the fate of our species seems to be precarious at best. I try to be positive and use humour in my work, even while knowing this.”

From illustration to toy design, Lula, Patch, Cherry Girl, Katie and Sadie incarnate this unique and nightmarish societal perspective. Decadence, denial and other such critical commentaries on the failures of capitalist utopias all find their niche in Camille’s creations which have appeared in such magazines as Juxtapoz, Rolling Stone, Flaunt, and Blab.

Camille currently lives in Los Angeles and has permanent collections of her work in both LACMA and the San Jose Museum of Art.
