James Jarvis
James Jarvis is one of the pioneers of the vinyl toy scene. Born in London in 1970, he studied illustration twice at the University of Brighton and again at the Royal college of Art in London.
This background prepared him well for the success he was to attain, namely exhibitions all over the world and even one-man-shows at the Parco galleries in Tokyo, Nagoya and Hiroshima.
In 1998, Jarvis created his first plastic toy figure "Martin" as a promotional giveaway for the London-based streetwear brand, Silas. This little figure became so popular that Jarvis became an overnight success story. The Silas bosses, Russell Waterman and Sofia Prantera, commissioned many more toys from Jarvis until the trio decided to set up Amos toys, which would independently produce and distribute all of Jarvis' figures. Fortune was to repeat itself many times in the form of the In-Crowd series and more recently the Vortigern's Machine comic stories and figures, as well as a host of other creations reflecting pop culture in 21st Century.
