Maywa Denki
Maywa Denki is an art unit formed by Japanese brothers Masamuchi and Nobumichi Tosa, and named after a company their father ran in the seventies. Maywa Denki mimics a real company. Instead of pieces of art, it sells “products” and exhibitions or live performances are referred to as “product demonstrations”.
The Tosa brothers are renowned for their Naki Series; nonsense machines sporting fish motifs, in addition to the very popular Tsukuba Series; mini, working instruments driven by motors or electromagnets. Their Knockman Series is a follow-up to this concept and stands at the forefront of their extensive range of cute mechanical toys.
