David Horvath
David Horvath lives and works in Los Angeles, USA and Seoul, South Korea.
One of today’s most significant figures in urban vinyl character design, Horvath, in close collaboration with his artist wife, Sun-Min Kim, is the creator of the critically acclaimed Uglydoll series – now also available in plush form.
The man who began his career as a comic illustrator, currently sells his creations in such shops and galleries as Barneys NY, MOMA, Moca and the Louvre, Benetton in Hong Kong, Fewmany in Tokyo and the Whitney Museum of American Art in Manhattan as well as most local comic bookshops.
The happy couple attended the same art school, with Sun-Min gaining subsequent success through her children’s book titles published in Korea and David through self-tuition and a refusal to accept the reality of adulthood. During one long-distance phase to their relationship, Sun-Min transformed one of her future husband’s primary Uglydoll designs into a hand-made plush toy and the rest, as they say, is history.
