David Cooper
Dave Cooper was born in a Nova Scotia fishing village in 1967 and now resides in Ottowa, Canada with his wife Julie and firstborn son, Jake. The cartoonist turned multi-media design guru began creating and publishing sci-fi comics for Aircel comics during his teens.
His relationship with owner Barry Blair provided some rather disturbing inspiration for a number of his later works which include iconoclastic and award-winning graphic novels, short animated films, paintings, drawings and more recently: designer toys under the Critterbox label.
After Aircel, Cooper joined a band for a couple of years before returning to comics. His book, Puke and Explode and the lavishly illustrated Cynthia Petal’s Alien Sex Frenzy provide the first examples of the dark subject matter which appears repeatedly in his later works.
Cooper gained his current recognition working as an art director and designer for numerous animated series (his designs appearing in classics such as Futurama). His artwork is now sold around the world and, although he has moved away from comics, his current escapades in fine art will no doubt bring him more critical, albeit slightly twisted, acclaim.
